Jamilla Johnson
In their own words.
Hi! I’m Jamilla, and my musical journey started at the age of 8 when a teacher heard me singing in the hallway and introduced me to the choir. From that moment on, I was hooked, and I’ve been singing ever since!
I graduated from USC, where I had the privilege of studying under Professor Sean Holt. He taught me that being an artist is about more than just singing—it's about taking care of your whole self. Sleep habits, mental health, and nutrition all play a crucial role in your success, and I carry those lessons with me every day.
One of the biggest hurdles I faced in my career was overcoming stage fright. It’s tough to perform when nerves are high, but with a shift in mindset and the support of a good friend who encouraged me to replace "I’m nervous" with "I’m excited," I found the confidence to step on stage and perform fearlessly.
A major highlight of my career so far has been performing at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles for my senior showcase. It was a dream come true to perform in such an iconic venue, with an original set that I wrote, directed, and envisioned myself. That night showed me that I can truly be a star.
As a teacher, my goal is to help my students enjoy the process of learning and connect deeply with the music they’re working on. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced singer, I want you to feel excited about your growth as a musician. I specialize in contemporary genres like Pop, Rock, R&B, Worship Music, and Musical Theater, and I encourage a hands-on, creative approach to each lesson.
I believe that with a little confidence and a lot of exploration, anything is possible! I’m here to help you discover your voice and take your musical journey to new heights.
